Update, 2:40 p.m.: The count is now up to 178 wrecks and stranded motorist calls:
- 110 wrecks
- 11 wrecks with injuries
- 57 motor assist calls
Update, 2:15 p.m.: Clarksville Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have responded to over 165 wrecks and stranded motorists so far today.
“All of the roads in Montgomery County, especially in the rural areas, are covered in snow and ice,” MCSO spokeswoman Sandra Brandon told Clarksville Now. “So we’re strongly encouraging those who can stay at home to stay at home.”
Vehicles everywhere are driving off the road and into ditches, getting stuck, and having crashes with injuries, Brandon said.
“It’s very, very dangerous out there right now. Until we can get the roads cleared and salted, we strongly encourage everyone to stay home.”
In particular, Warfield Boulevard has been at a standstill in both directions for most of the day. Drivers reported several cars had slipped off the road.
Update, 12:45 p.m.: The Clarksville Police Department has worked 65 crashes from 6 a.m. until noon today, according to spokesman Scott Beaubien.
“CPD is urging the public to stay home and avoid the roadways if possible. If you must go somewhere, allow yourself plenty of time to get there, slow down and anticipate slowing down and stopping, the roads are slick and the snow is still accumulating on the ground,” Beaubien said.
Update, 11:30 a.m.: Traffic is at a dead stop at several locations in Clarksville, including Trenton Road, Warfield Boulevard, Needmore Road and 101st Airborne Division Parkway.
Conditions on Warfield are treacherous, with driver reporting sliding off the road.
Drivers reported that Needmore between Hazelwood and Trenton Road is impassable for normal traffic, and multiple cars have slid off the road.
Traffic is very slow everywhere.
Update, 11:10 a.m.: One person was killed in the crash, which involved a commercial vehicle, THP said. No hazardous materials were involved.
From about 10 to 11 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Clarksville Police responded to over 30 crashes in the county and city. Calls are still coming in to dispatch. “We are strongly encouraging residents to stay home and off the roadways,” MCSO said.
