Update, 6:30 p.m.: The Clarksville Police Department is assisting the Tennessee Highway Patrol with a crash with injuries on Interstate 24 westbound at Exit 1.
The crash occurred at around 5:38 p.m. and is causing heavy traffic congestion, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien.
Currently one lane westbound is open, however, the public is asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
Traffic is backed up from Exit 1, past Exit 4 to about mile marker 5
Update, 5:40 p.m.: Traffic backups are continuing from Exit 1 past the state line into Kentucky.
Update, 4 p.m.: The traffic backup is clearing, but it’s still backed up from the state line to just past Exit 1.
Update, 3:30 p.m.: Westbound traffic is moving but is still tied up through the area.
