Update, 9:49 p.m.: The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Charles Green of Clarksville. After crashing on I-24, Green was taken into custody, treated at Tennova Healthcare and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Green is being charged with theft of a motor vehicle, evading arrest and aggravated assault. No injuries were reported during and after the pursuit, according to Beaubien. Since the case is pending prosecution, no other information is available for the time being.

Update, 3:15 p.m.: Emergency crews have pulled the ambulance – EMS ambulance 26 – out with a tow truck. Crews have cleared the scene and all lanes are now open.

Traffic is backed up about 2 miles past the state line into Kentucky.

Update, 2:30 p.m.: The crash involved police chasing an ambulance that was stolen from Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville.

Clarksville Police were notified at about 1:33 p.m. that a Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services ambulance was stolen from Tennova, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien. The suspect was immediately seen by other EMS personnel, Montgomery County deputies, and police officers who pursued the ambulance.

The suspect drove onto I-24 eastbound, and when officers tried to stop it, the ambulance hit a patrol car and then came to a stop near mile marker 5.6. The driver was quickly taken into custody at approximately 1:41 p.m. without further incident.

There have been no reported injuries to citizens, officers or the suspect.

I-24 eastbound has been reduced to one lane, and motorists are advised to find an alternate route until officers can clear the roadway.

No further information has been released.

At 2:35 p.m., traffic was backed up past the state line into Kentucky.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A crash on Interstate 24 Friday afternoon had eastbound traffic backed up.

The wreck near mile marker 5 in the eastbound lanes had traffic backed up past Exit 4 to just past Exit 1.

Multiple people reported on the Clarksville-Montgomery County CrimeWatch Facebook page seeing a police chase involving an ambulance that went onto I-24 eastbound just before the crash took place.
