Update, 8:35 p.m.: The roads are back open, according to an MSCO news release. “To clarify, there were no actual crashes as a result of this incident,” Delaney said in the release.

Update, 4:18 p.m.: The incident began when a deputy investigating a stolen vehicle at the B&L Market on College Street tried to make contact with the driver, Delaney said. The deputy got involved in an altercation, and the deputy fired shots.

The suspect vehicle fled north on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and crashed near Dunbar Cave Road, where the passenger fled the vehicle while it was still in motion, Delaney said. The deputy took custody of the passenger. The suspect vehicle then fled back down College Street and crashed with another MCSO vehicle near Hornberger, Delaney said.

Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not been released. The deputy involved in the shooting is uninjured.

Update, 4:15 p.m.: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that agents are responding to the incident as an officer-involved shooting.

Update, 4 p.m.: One suspect is in custody, and the deputies involved in the pursuit are OK, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Robert Nash.

Update, 3:40 p.m.: Wilma Rudolph Boulevard southbound is closed from Summit Drive to Old Trenton Road.

Drivers avoiding the area are finding heavy traffic on other routes: Southbound traffic is backed up on Warfield Boulevard and is slow on Interstate 24. Westbound traffic is backed up on 101st Parkway.

Update, 3:15 p.m.: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a pursuit that resulted in three crashes along Wilma and College Street this afternoon.

Deputies were pursuing a vehicle south on Wilma when there was a crash near Tim Short Mitsubishi, according to MCSO Lt. Bishop Delaney. There was a second crash near Kraft Street, then a third crash near Hornberger, he said.

All locations are being investigated and are blocked off, he said. No further information has been released.

At 3:15 p.m., southbound traffic on Wilma was backed up almost to 101st Airborne Division Parkway.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – College Street is closed downtown, causing traffic congestion backed up to Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.

The closure is between Red River Street and Hornberger Lane. Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Kraft Street. At 3 p.m., southbound traffic on Wilma was backed up to Trenton Road.
