ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. – Drivers on I-24 eastbound were stuck in traffic for hours Wednesday after a tractor trailer carrying 48,000 gallons of sulfuric acid crashed in Robertson County.

According the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver hit the median between mile markers 19 and 23, over-corrected, then lost control of his rig.

The wreck occurred  at around 11:20 a.m. Some motorists heading to Nashville were stuck in traffic for up to three hours before being diverted off of the interstate.

Eastbound lanes were closed for close to ten hours. Traffic was backed up all the way to Exit 11.

Westbound traffic is not affected.
