CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Tony V. Eldridge has announced his candidacy for Montgomery County Commission, District 7.

Eldridge is a lifelong resident of the Oakwood community and is running as an independent.

He is retired from Bi-County Solid Waste Management. He has followed in the steps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather by continuing the family farming operation in western Montgomery County. He is the managing partner of Eldridge Farms, a row crop, tobacco, hay and vegetable operation in the St. Paul community.

He is a 1990 graduate of Leadership Clarksville, past president and board member of the Montgomery Farmers’ Cooperative, minority adviser to the Stewart/Houston/Humphreys County Farm Service Agency, and has been a member of the Montgomery/Robertson County Community Corrections Board, the Montgomery County Extension Endowment Committee, the Montgomery/Cheatham County Farm Service Agency, and the Crisis Call Line.

Eldridge worships with his family at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Oakwood, where he serves as a trustee and active Sunday School member.

He said his desire is to represent every resident.

“I want to be the candidate to represent District 7 working with the Planning Commission in addressing their area growth and infrastructure needs, along with working with the local School Board in planning for adequate educational opportunities and community service.”

District 7 covers the Dotsonville and Woodlawn areas of western Montgomery County, between Dover Road and the Cumberland River.

Eldridge is a graduate of Northwest High School, Class of 1977, and attended Tennessee State University.

He is married to Denese Leon, who works as a special education teaching assistant at Minglewood Elementary School. They have three children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
