CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Voters around the state go to the polls in a primary election for a number of local seats and ballot issues Tuesday.

In Montgomery County, the only contested race is for the office of trustee.

Nashville voters will decide on funding a $5.4 billion transit plan. The Associated Press reports the transit plan will eventually cost about $9 billion after interest and operating fees. The plan calls for a 26-mile new light rail system on five major corridors, upgrades to the city bus system and an underground tunnel downtown.

Polls are open until 7:00 p.m.

The Tennessee state primary and county general election will be held on Aug. 2, and state general and city elections are Nov. 6.
