WOODLAWN, Tenn. – A tobacco barn in Woodlawn was completely destroyed by fire Saturday night.

According to a news release, Corporal Joseph May with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrived on scene at 7:42 p.m. to find a barn on Coleman Road engulfed in flames.

He was met by barn owner Devereax Rawlings, who said he had just left the barn when he heard a loud pop. When he turned around he saw the fire and immediately called 911.

The Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported. Total estimated property damage is valued at $150,000.

The cause of the fire was not released.

MCSO would like to remind residents that it is tobacco curing season and it is normal to see barns with smoke rising out of them. However, if residents see a barn with actual flames rising out of it, call 911 immediately.
