NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Tennessee Department of Transportation are partnering with law enforcement across the state for the I-40 Challenge, with the goal of having zero fatalities on the 455 miles of I-40 in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will have troopers stationed every 20 miles on I-40, along with increased law enforcement on all highways Wednesday, November 21 through Sunday, November 25.
Kentucky State Police will participate in the Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) Thanksgiving patrol blitz during the same period.
AAA predicts 54.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the Thanksgiving holiday, an increase of 4.8 percent over last year. Tennesseans make up 1.24 million of those travelers, with an estimated 1.18 million expected to travel by automobile.
