CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Cumberland Arts Centre Dinner Theatre’s next production is “Southern Fried Funeral” with a heavy dose of veteran actors and a slew of newcomers to the stage.

“Southern Fried Funeral”, written by Osbourne & Eppler, is set in the small Mississippi town of New Edinburgh. The play’s action takes place over several days in August during the funeral of Dewey Frye, who dropped dead in the middle of a joke to the Rotarians during their dinner meeting. His wife, Dorothy, is faced with dealing with funeral arrangements, the realities of widowhood and a crazy assemblage of family, both real and imagined.

The veteran cast members include Linda Ellis Cunningham, Jan Dial, Jeff Wellington and Amanda Jennison-Sousa. The new faces you’ll see are Nicole June, Ila Mae Avitia, Tracey Davidson and Bailey Thompson.

According to director, Art Conn, “I love working with new actors in community theater and usually have at least one in each show. This time there are four people who are new to the theatre and it’s exciting to see them blossom and all four are doing an incredible job.”

Performance dates are August 9 and 10 with a matinee performance on Sunday, August 11. Tickets are $30 + tax, which includes dinner and show. For the 9 and 10 performances, the doors will open at 6:00 p.m. For the 11 matinee, the doors open at 12:30 p.m.

Entree options include either “Southern fried chicken” from sponsor Bojangles, or pork barbeque. Reservations must be made in advance and your entree choice made at that time, and can be made by calling (931) 552-1106.

The Cumberland Arts Centre is located at 710 Main Street in downtown Clarksville.
