CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Academy baseball team is riding on a 13-5 record and is currently 8th in the TN Class A High School baseball rankings.
A big part of the team’s success has been the play of Michael Conn, Brayden Batson, and Trevor Mace.
On Tuesday morning, the three seniors signed scholarships and made plans to extend their baseball careers past the high school level.
Batson, who signed with Vol State Community College, knew after talking with Coach Hunt he was headed to the right program.
“Coach Hunt called me up and asked if I was interested in playing for Vol State, and we talked about how successful they had been the past few years” Batson said. “I was into that, and I wanted to be part of a winning program, and I really wanted to go there.”
Conn and Mace will both be at Jackson State Community College next year.
“Coach Peterson helped me out a lot with the recruiting process.” Conn said. “Once he got me in touch with Coach Malik, I went down and worked out for them. I’m definitely looking forward to learning from all the coaches and existing players at Jackson State, and increasing my skill and level of play, and I can’t wait to experience the competitiveness of college baseball.”
“The recruiting process was a lot easier than I was expecting. We went to Jackson State’s campus and toured it with a couple of their players and checked out the locker rooms,” Mace said. “Coach Malik texted my baseball coach and AD, Jake Peterson, and he gave Coach Malik my number. We talked on the phone and then I went to Jackson State again to talk with them again and then received the NLI, signed it, and sent it back to them.”
The Cougars travel to Houston County Tuesday to take on the Fighting Irish at 5 p.m. in a conference game. The team will be back at home on Thursday to face Northwest High School.
