CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The local Red Cross has just pre-deployed three disaster volunteers to Louisiana. The crew will assist residence in the area, as Hurricane Barry is expected to make landfall Saturday.

The hurricane warning was issued Thursday. More than two million people are under advisory.

More volunteers will depart as the storm progresses. The hurricane is expected to bring heavy rain to the mid-south, which would likely create flooding in that portion of the county.

Volunteers play a crucial role in disaster preparedness and relief. The Clarksville group will be vital in the larger Red Cross disaster operation, which is expected to last for at least the next two weeks.

The local crew includes:


Marvin Williams – Assigned as a transportation supervisor on the operation. He will be responsible for the fleet of Red Cross vehicles on the operation. Vehicles that will be needed to transport Red Cross workforce and materials needed in support.


Charles Thomas – Assigned as a Feeding Manager. Charles will be managing teams that prepare and deliver food on a large scale to support this operation.


John Price – Assigned as a Staff Services worker. He will be assisting in the logistics of moving workforce to the operation, housing the workforce and also moving the workforce back to the pre-deployment location upon the conclusion of the operation.
