CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Salvation Army is once again supporting the community with their hard work over the holidays and your help is needed. As we head into the busy season you’ll hear the bells ringing for the Red Kettles and see the Angel Trees at area businesses.
Captain Jimmy Steele with the Salvation Army talked about how donations to the Red Kettles help our community. “The kettles are something we do in November and December to help raise money for not only children during Christmastime to help provide children with new clothing and toys but it also helps fund our operations for the entire year,” said Steele.
Steele added that last year $131.000 was raised in Clarksville for the Salvation Army and the goal for this holiday season is $200,000. “This year if we can hit the $200,000, I feel like we’ll be able to get through all of 2016 without any financial speed bumps,” Steele said.
The Angel Tree program in Clarksville will help hundreds of children have a brighter Christmas with new clothes and toys. Angel Trees can be found at Governors Square Mall, in all three Walmart Supercenters, all three Neighborhood Markets and K-Mart on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
The trees have tags hanging on them with information on a child in need in Clarksville-Montgomery County. From that information you simply purchase a gift of clothing or toy for the youngster and drop it off at the Salvation Army at 210 Kraft Street.
The toys and clothing are being stored at the Angel Tree Warehouse and will be handed out to families December 14. Captain Sarah Steele emphasized that volunteers are needed December 9-12 to help organize and prepare for distribution.
