One of Fieldstone Place’s most well known and friendly faces was surprised with her 103rd birthday celebration on Saturday.

Sally Copple – who is known to residents and staff alike as “The Queen” for her famous finger points and infectious personality – was surrounded by nearly 50 of her family members and friends for another birthday bash.

“She’s 103 years old, and she’s still going very strong,” said Chesney Lancaster, program director of the senior living community. “She’s probably healthier than most of us here.”

Copple became a part of Fieldstone Place seven years ago and relocated to Clarksville after a she suffered a stroke two years before that. She was hesitant to make the move from Florida at first but has since grown close to the city and the Fieldstone community.

“She’s just as happy as can be,” Lancaster said. “I’ve never seen her in a bad mood. She’s always just outgoing and loves to talk to everybody.”

Balloons, pillars and Sally’s cake were decorated in bright shades of yellow, pink, purple, green and blue. Copple, showing up to the event in a pink shirt and cardigan, is known by her stepdaughter Karen Taylor for her love of color and perfect humming pitch.

“At times she can be feisty, but most of the time she’s very loving,” said Taylor, who visits her almost every day. “She’s a very lovely lady, and I’m proud to be her stepdaughter.”

Fieldstone was hopeful to gift Sally with 103 celebratory cards on Saturday, two days after her birthday. Taylor says they’ve received 70 so far and expect more to come soon.

She and the retirement community plan to give Sally three cards a day, as to not overwhelm her with the support.

“I wish we had 100 more of Ms. Sally,” Lancaster said. “She means the world to us.”
