CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – After yet another tremendous week for Austin Peay football (3-2, 2-0), the buzz is bigger than ever surrounding the Govs.
Claiming national news for their recent success, the Govs are off to a perfect start in conference play after toppling the nationally ranked UT Martin Skyhawks (3-2, 1-1). The Govs defense held strong yet again this week shutting out the Skyhawks in an exciting 7-0 victory last Saturday in front of a record crowd at Fortera Stadium.
Jeremiah Mitchell led the charge for the APSU defense with 14 tackles, while the defense held the Skyhawk quarterback to just 10 of 31 passing with 2 interceptions. This win may not have been the high-octane offense these Govs fans are used to, but the Govs still managed to grind out over 200 yards on the ground, highlighted by the end around run for the game’s only touchdown from Terrius Callahan.
In what was said to be a great team win, there is nothing but hype and excitement surrounding the Govs these days.
The Govs play host to the #5 Jacksonville State Gamecocks (3-1,1-0) this upcoming Saturday at 4 p.m. This matchup is drawing a lot of attention with the way the Governors are playing, and JSU being a top ranked FCS team in the country. With a big week of practice ahead, the Govs are done celebrating the wins and preparing for this upcoming week. Come out this Saturday and support your Austin Peay Governors as they square up against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
