CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Do you remember where you were ten years ago? Maybe you were one of the first people lucky enough to enjoy some of the great food offered by the new Choppin’ Block restaurant. Yes, it’s been 10 years since the local eatery opened and their still going strong today.
You’ll find the Choppin’ Block at 2212 Madison Street and once inside you’ll be able to choose from a long list of menu items as well as Clarksville’s only specialty butcher shop and don’t forget about the Big Green Egg.
I sat down with Owner Beverly Bridges just before the lunch hour rush, in between mealtimes, which is one of the few times Bridges’ has to set down. By the way, after the interview I enjoyed Tuesday’s Blue Plate Special of meatloaf and a twice-baked potato.
I asked Bridges about the last ten years and what it has meant to her. She said the reward is hard to describe and talked about when someone compliments her and her employees and talks about the great food and service they have received.
If you’re hungry for anything from fried bologna to a rib-eye sandwich? Choppin’ Block has it. How about homemade soups and let’s not forget about dessert. They have cheesecakes made from scratch and a pecan pie made from Bridges’ mother’s recipe.
Getting back to those twice-baked potatoes, Bridges said they are made by hand every day and they serve 300 to 400 each day. Bridges also wanted to highlight a pork chop which is battered and fried on the bone and has been a staple in the restaurant since they opened a decade ago.
Those delicious items mentioned above is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Let’s not forget about the Big Green Egg. The Choppin’ Block is the local distributor and Bridges talked about how customers come from all over the region to buy them.
With the holidays upon us, when you have that special event taking place and you need catering, the Choppin’ Block is there for you. Bridges said right now they are booking six to nine to 12 months out and especially this time of year it’s nothing for her to have to work 80 hours a week.
For their ten year anniversary the Choppin’ Block will celebrate, on Saturday, December 3, with a discount on everything in the store and will give away a Mini Green Egg which you can register for on that day. Free samples of food smoked on the Big Green Egg will also be available.
Bridges said she wanted to thank the community for supporting the restaurant throughout the years. “The odds were not in favor of a restaurant in today’s time, especially a “mom and pop” making it,” said Bridges. She also praised her staff of around 20 employees for their hard work and support.
Once again the Choppin’ Block is at 2212 Madison Street. They are open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and they are closed on Sunday. To find out more you can email eat@thechoppinblock.com, call 931-920-2112 or visit their website, www.thechoppinblock.com.
