CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Love Lights a Tree is celebrating 30 years in the community and will be held tonight at Tennova Healthcare.

Love Lights a Tree is a December event organized by a group of dedicated volunteers of the American Cancer Society. The event supports the organization’s efforts toward a cure,  honors those who are fighting cancer, as well as those who have died of cancer and caretakers for cancer patients.

Love Lights A Tree will take place Sunday, December 1 at the Tennova Healthcare lobby located in Clarksville. Last year the event raised more than $10k and has raised more than $300k since inception.

“I look forward to this event every year,” said Wanda Burchett, Founder of the event. “I am so grateful this event is still
going on – it’s always been such a beautiful event to remember and honor our loved ones. It’s just a shame that here we
are 30 years later and we’re still battling this insidious disease.”

Each year, the committee selects an honoree from the nominees and recognizes them at the event. The person considered for this honor has had cancer or is currently being treated for cancer. The nominee may be a child or an adult who is a resident of Montgomery County.

This person will have inspired others by the dignity and fortitude with which the challenge of cancer treatment has been faced. The decision is based on the extent of the individual’s influence on others in the community. Lights on sale now “In Memory” or “In Honor” of a loved one will decorate the tree.

Love Lights a Tree, sponsored by Tennova Healthcare, is free to the public and will take place in the facility’s front lobby.

Light refreshments will be served and entertainment will be provided. Local artist and Committee Co-chair Lynne Waters
will be selling 9×12 prints for $10. Ornaments and holiday cards will also be for sale with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society’s research and education efforts, as well as support for cancer patients.
