CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Commission met Monday night for their formal meeting, which included the commissioners electing a new District 3 School Board member.
Going into the meeting, four candidates announced their interest in representing District 3: Michelle James, Teresa Crosslin, Darryl D. Anderson and Kathryn Texidor.
The first County Commission vote failed due to lack of majority, as 9 commissioners voted for Anderson, 9 for Crosslin, and 1 for James.
The second round also failed due to lack of majority, however, during the third round, the commission elected Crosslin with 11 out of 19 votes. Anderson received 8 votes during the third and final round.
Those who voted for Crosslin during round three included commissioners’ John Gannon, Joe Smith, Rickey Ray, Michael Lankford, Nathan Burkholder, Jorge Padro, Joe Creek, Joshua Beal, Ryan Gallant, Billy Frye and Autumn Simmons.
Voting for Anderson were commissioners’ Rashidah Leverett, LaTonia Brown, Jeremiah Walker, Carmelle Chandler, Walker Woodruff, Lisa Prichard, Chris Rasnic and David Shelton.
Commissioners’ Jason Knight and David Harper were not present during the voting.
Background of Teresa Crosslin
Lifelong Clarksville resident and parent Crosslin said she cares deeply about the success, safety and well-being for every student in CMCSS, according to previous reports.
“I would like to be a voice in helping make a student’s education so successful that they can become a positive and beneficial part of their community,” Crosslin said in her letter of interest. “Whether they choose to stay here in Montgomery County or take what they’ve learned and impact the world beyond graduation.”
Some of the areas Crosslin hopes to help strengthen across the school district are school safety, school nutrition, literacy and learning support, as well as student mental health and teacher support.
Crosslin attended Austin Peay State University and at one point opened her own business in Clarksville known as Crosslin Catering. Her last listed job on her resume was with Mosaic Learning Center in 2023.
