MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — U.S. Housing and Urban Development officials say more than $21 million in grants will support 162 local homeless housing and service programs in Tennessee.
HUD said Monday that the Continuum of Care grants will help provide critically needed services for homeless people and their families.
Programs receiving the grants in Tennessee offer services including street outreach, client assessment and direct housing assistance.
HUD says its funding allows providers to continue offering permanent and transitional housing to homeless people, as well as services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.
Homeless programs in Memphis and Shelby County are receiving $6.9 million, while programs in Nashville and Davidson County are receiving more than $3.4 million. Programs in the Chattanooga area are getting $2.9 million.
