CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Titans open their 2020 campaign at 9:20 p.m. tonight on the road against the Denver Broncos.
A lot has occurred recently this offseason surrounding the Titans organization.
Firstly, 2020 first-round draft pick Isaiah Wilson continues to make headlines for all of the wrong reasons.
Wilson was arrested Friday night for DUI and was later released on $1,000 bond
In August, Wilson received a trespassing warning after attending a group gathering at an apartment on Tennessee State University’s campus.
After now multiple run-ins with the law, Wilson’s Titans tenure is certainly off to a shaky start.
Offense remains intact
Some positive offseason news for Tennessee fans is that the front office was able to work out new deals for both quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry.
In 12 games started in 2019, Tannehill completed 70.3% of his pass attempts and threw for 2,742 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Henry, the NFL’s leading rusher last season with 1,540 yards, is once again healthy and appears primed to carry another heavy workload in 2020.
Robinson shores up pass rush
Titans general Manager Jon Robinson addressed the team’s need for a dynamic pass rusher by officially signing Jadeveon Clowney Sunday, Sept. 6.
Clowney had 31 tackles, three sacks and two touchdowns in 13 games last year for the Seattle Seahawks and was one of the most coveted free agents this past offseason.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Clowney already have a working relationship from when both were members of the Houston Texans.
In 2017 while Vrabel was the Texans defensive coordinator, Clowney had a career-high 9.5 sacks.
The Titans also added outside linebacker Vic Beasley to help bring down quarterbacks in 2020.
Upon his arrival to the team, Beasley was placed on the non-football injury list after failing his physical. Even after showing up 10 days late and being a ghost for most of training camp, the unique talent still has a chance to suit up in a Titans uniform sooner rather than later this season.
Titans get younger, lose experience
While the Titans didn’t necessarily make a ton of noise since last February, they were able to add depth to both lines and get younger at some critical positions.
After offensive lineman Jack Conklin signed for big money to play for the Cleveland Browns in March, Robinson brought back Dennis Kelly on a three-year contract extension who will likely now be a Week 1 starter.
Tennessee let the 29-year-old Logan Ryan walk while trading longtime veteran Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick.
Casey initially had a few hard feelings about being dealt, but reportedly is approaching Monday’s game against his former team like any other.
Where to watch
Tennessee (0-0) will take on Denver (0-0) with kickoff set for 9:20 p.m. tonight at Empire Field at Mile High on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
