CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) announced on Wednesday, October 31, that Tennessee students have broken records for the highest ACT scores and participation rate.

The 2018 average composite score for students in the state was 20.2, which is improved from the 2017 state average of 20.1.  With an additional 2,000 students having taken the exam this year – bringing the participation rate up to 97 percent – this is an impressive increase.

The Clarksville Montgomery County School System’s (CMCSS) average composite score for 2018 was 20.4.

CMCSS uses the 11th grade ACT assessment data for reviewing progress of CMCSS students toward meeting the ACT composite benchmark of 21.  Looking solely at 11th grade students, the 2018 composite average for Montgomery County was 19.2, compared to the 11th grade state average of 18.8.  The 11th grade composite score averages for each Montgomery school are as follows:

  • Clarksville High School – 20.6
  • Kenwood High School – 17.1
  • Montgomery Central High School – 19.1
  • Northeast High School – 18.3
  • Northwest High School – 18.3
  • Rossview High School – 21.0
  • West Creek High School – 18.2
  • Middle College at Austin Peay – 24.5

These ACT averages for CMCSS and the state of Tennessee, coupled with the increase in participation, indicate record highs for Tennessee students.  For more information, take a look at TDOE’s release.
