NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee state trooper has been placed on discretionary leave with pay after being arrested on drug charges.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security says Trooper Mark D. Williams was arrested by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents on Friday in Lauderdale County. State officials say all departmental equipment including weapons and badges were secured following the arrest.

On Friday, as part of the ongoing investigation, authorities said agents reportedly observed Williams, who was in uniform and on-duty at the time, buy hydrocodone from Elliott Goode, according to WKRN News 2.

Williams, 47, is faces drug charges.

Sixty-four-year-old Goode is charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance.

Both men were booked into the Lauderdale County jail.

Williams is being held on a $10,000 bond, while Goode is being held on $7,500.

Williams was assigned to Lauderdale County and began his career with the Highway Patrol in January 2004.
