CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Tennessee House of Representatives honored 5 Star Media Group’s own Lee Erwin for his 50 years in radio broadcasting, as well as his time spent serving the Clarksville community.
“We take great pleasure in paying tribute to those outstanding Tennesseans who have proven themselves to be invaluable professionals and community leaders throughout their estimable careers,” said the resolution honoring Erwin. “And whereas, one such exemplary individual is Lee Erwin of Clarksville, who recently celebrated 50 years in radio broadcasting, marking half a century of devoted service to his loyal listeners.”
The resolution recognized Erwin for his morning news and traffic reporting for 5 Star, as well as his reporting for Clarksville Now. They also recognized him for recently being honored with the Virginia Martin-Hatcher Star Service Award in honor of his broadcasting, and his work with the Salvation Army, United Way, and Big Brothers and Sisters of Clarksville.
“Mr. Erwin has become an unmistakable, valued voice and presence throughout his community,” said the resolution. “He epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are characteristic of a true Tennessean.”
‘I hope that somewhere along the way I have managed to be able to help you out’
Erwin told Clarksville Now he’s honored and flattered to receive the recognition. “This is something I never expected,” he said. “I’ve received numerous awards and accolades over the years, but to be recognized by the House of Representatives is fantastic.”
Erwin also thanked all of his listeners over the years. “I hope that somewhere along the way I have managed to be able to help you out,” he said.
5 Star Media Group General Manager Kevin Miskimins said the most remarkable thing about Erwin being honored is that the recognition comes from what he’s done in those 50 years of service.
“Lee simply is a community champion and advocate unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” Miskimins said. “A saying that we try to live by at 5 Star is for everyone to star in their role. What Lee provides is a daily example and inspiration of not only starring in his role but quickly jumping to star in any other role available or needed at any moment.”
