CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – University of Tennessee head football coach Jeremy Pruitt announced Thursday during a video teleconference that the Volunteers will wear black jerseys for their November 7 home matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats.
After the contest, the game-used jerseys are expected to be auctioned off with all of the proceeds being donated to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Volunteers last donned black alternate uniforms in 2009 when Tennessee knocked off then No. 21 South Carolina at Neyland Stadium in Lane Kiffin’s only season on Rocky Top.
The decision displays Pruitt’s continued support of his players and coaching staff, as several of his assistants have reportedly called for the gesture to be made over recent weeks.
This adds even more juice to an already intriguing home schedule for Tennessee, as the Vols also welcome in both Alabama and Florida this upcoming season.
