CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Chaplain Ted Denny on his retirement after 41 years of law enforcement service to Clarksville-Montgomery County.
Denny started his career in law enforcement in 1977 with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. In 1980 he moved over to the Clarksville Police Department. He retired as a Sergeant from CPD in 1996. His retirement was short-lived and in 1998 he returned to law enforcement to work for the Sheriff’s Office.
During his tenure at the Sheriff’s Office he has served as a Patrol Deputy, Chaplain, and Public Information Officer. Later in his career he was known for conducting funeral escorts for many grieving families in our community. He was also known as the “umbrella man” and could be seen handing out umbrellas to citizens he saw walking in the rain.
Denny also worked in radio in Nashville and Clarksville during the 70’s and 80’s. He hosted “Behind the Badge” for many years. A weekly radio show that spotlighted the men and women in law enforcement.
Denny attended seminary school and in 1993 earned his Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree. That same year he become the Pastor for Bethel Baptist Church, where he still serves to this day.
“Ted Denny has meant a lot to many people both within and outside of his law enforcement career. He has one of the biggest hearts you will find in a public servant and we are certainly going to miss his presence at the Sheriff’s Office. We wish Ted and his wife Trish many years of good health and prosperity,” said Sheriff Fuson.
