CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Teachers flocked to the opening of the Clarksville-Montgomery County (CMCSS) Teacher’s Warehouse Wednesday, July 30 to shop for back to school supplies. There was also a ribbon cutting for the new location of the facility which is at the CMCSS Central Services South building, the site of the former Jostens plant on Highway 48/13.

Close to 146 teachers who are new to the school system or transferring back to the district took part in the shopping experience. The way the system works is teachers are assigned points that are used to pick up donated school supplies and each teacher gets up to 32 points per shopping trip which equals to about $40 to $45.

Candy Johnson with the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation talked about the Teacher’s Warehouse. “Our goal is to help supplement some of the items that they have. We can’t provide everything they need but we can help save $40 or $50 a visit out of their pocket for items that otherwise they would be purchasing,” said Johnson.

There is always a need for school supplies and many local businesses and organizations partner with the education foundation throughout the year to help keep items on the shelves for teachers which in turn benefits their students. The public can also make donations to Teacher’s Warehouse or show their support as a volunteer.

One teacher from Northwest High School, Brenton DeFlitch, was glad to have the chance to shop for school supplies for his students. “A lot of the kids in the area need that little extra of hey, we’ve got some stuff for you. It lets them know that the community is there for them and the school is there for them which makes them want to try and work harder,” DeFlitch said.
