HOUSTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Houston County teacher was bitten by a bat at school earlier this week, school officials said.

According to a statement from the director of schools, the teacher at Houston County Middle School immediately notified administration Tuesday. She has since received medical attention and is doing well.

No students were present when the teacher was bitten.

Officials told WKRN News 2 administration and maintenance crews have since searched the building, including upper ceiling areas and the roof, and found no evidence of live bats or any other bats in the building.

Director of Schools Kris McAskill said the school system routinely has all schools and cafeterias serviced by a pesticide company.

She added that “all reasonable steps to ensure this isolated incident does not reoccur are being taken.”
