CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer will join state and local officials on Friday, March 16 to break ground on the State Route 13 and State Route 149 widening project in Clarksville.
The $65 million project will widen the roadway to five lanes on Hwy 149 from River Road to Hwy 13, and Hwy 13 from Hwy 149 to Zinc Plant Road.
The project also includes a bridge over the Cumberland River to replace the McClure Bridge.
Construction will continue daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be temporary lane closures with flagging operations on Hwy 13.
This work is part of a widening project for these state roads. According to TDOT, the purpose of the project is to provide a multi-lane facility as part of the planned State Road 374 bypass around the City of Clarksville.
The new facility will provide an improved and more efficient transportation corridor between the areas to the south and the areas to the west of the city. The proposed project is designed to improve safety, capacity, and mobility for existing and future traffic.
Each existing roadway to a five-lane facility, including two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 12-foot dedicated center turn lane, 10-foot paved shoulders, curb and gutter, and five-foot sidewalks on each side. A new bridge over the Cumberland River will be constructed in phases.
