NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Contract crews from the Tennessee Department of Transportation will implode the old State Route 49 Bridge over the Harpeth River in Ashland City the morning of Monday, December 23rd.
Explosives will be used between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to demolish the old cantilever bridge, which was built in the 1930’s.
Construction began in 2012 on a new $7.9 million concrete and steel structure bridge which was built beside the older structure. The entire project is expected to be complete by June 2014. Traffic on the newly constructed bridge will be temporarily stopped for five to ten minutes for the bridge implosion. Lanes will be reopened to traffic as soon as possible once any debris is cleaned up.
The bridge is located adjacent to the Harpeth River Bridge Recreational Campground, 2914 Hwy 49 W, Ashland City, TN.
