Today, April 15, is the last day to file an IRS tax return, better known as Tax Day. Those who may not have had a chance to complete a return can request an extension by the end of the day.
According to the IRS, any taxpayer can get an automatic 6-month tax return extension by filing or efiling IRS Form 4868.
Before filing an extension, you must find out how much you expect to owe in taxes and submit payment (for at least 90% of your balance due) by April 15 in order to avoid IRS penalties and interest.
