CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Tangi C. Smith has announced her campaign for the Democratic nomination for re-election to the Montgomery County Commission, District 8.

Smith retired from Fort Campbell in 2017 after 21 years of active-duty service. She is the founder of Pi Mu Phi Military Sorority Inc. and Women Elevated, which has women veteran transition homes in several states, with two in Clarksville.

Smith is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Clarksville and is pursuing a master’s degree in business.

“I am running for re-election because I absolutely love Clarksville-Montgomery County, and it has been my greatest honor to serve her residents. I also believe with a new county mayor, Montgomery County will need some level-headed continuity with not only the citizens of Montgomery County in mind but also its progression. A few of the things that I am most proud of since being elected is the new F&M Bank Arena and a new library being built in north Clarksville.”

District 8 is in north Clarksville and includes a portion of Fort Campbell. It’s bordered by Tennessee Avenue, the Kentucky state line, roughly Allen Road, Tiny Town Road and Fort Campbell Boulevard down to Lee Road.

Smith is married to CW3 Keemon Smith, who is stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. In 2018, she decided to remain in Montgomery County to fulfill her obligation as county commissioner. Together, they have one daughter, Kymoni who is a senior at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.
