CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A suspicious fire at a local convenience store is under investigation by Clarksville Fire Rescue and the Clarksville Police Department.

According to Fire Marshal Ray Williams, the fire at Heroes Market (3001 Fort Campbell Blvd.) was discovered around 11 p.m. Sunday night by a police officer on patrol.

Williams said firefighters from multiple stations responded within three minutes and had the blaze under control within 15 minutes.

He said the fire initiated in two places within the store: near the automotive supplies sections and behind the counter.

Investigators could not initially determine what would have started the fire in those areas.

However, Williams believes the fire may have been intentionally set because money had also been stolen from an ATM within the building. He thinks it’s possible that a suspect started the fire to cover up the theft.

The store was heavily damaged by the blaze and will be closed indefinitely.
