Contributed commentary by Greg Hotzoglou on Robert Nash, who is running for district attorney.

In 2012, my brother was murdered. My brother was actively serving our country in the 101st Airborne out of Fort Campbell. He had just returned from his first deployment less than a year ago. My brother, Taylor, was a kind-hearted, honorable young man who made his family and friends proud by the way he carried himself and how he put other people and his country before himself. This loss left our family devastated.

Finding the men responsible for my brother’s murder meant everything to our family. And they were found. But this wasn’t enough. These men still had to stand trial and be convicted for their heinous crimes. This was the time our family met Robert Nash.

Robert Nash was the district attorney for the case. Mr. Nash took the time to meet with our family and learn about my brother. We explained to Mr. Nash the type of person Taylor was and the life he led. I’m sure at the time we may have even rambled on too much as grieving families probably often do. Mr. Nash let us go on and listened attentively and respectfully. My brother was not just another case to Mr. Nash. It was easy to see that Mr. Nash took great interest in getting to know the victim and their family. It meant the world to us to have someone in our corner that was so invested in getting justice for my brother.

From that point on, Robert Nash and his team were in constant communication with our family about the process and what to expect. This really put our minds and hearts at ease during this extremely difficult time. All the while Mr. Nash worked diligently compiling all the evidence and organizing his arguments in a clear and concise way. No stone was left unturned and Mr. Nash was extremely prepared for everything the defense attorneys might throw at him.

During the trial, I remember Robert Nash speaking sternly yet eloquently to make his points. His knowledge of the law and process of the trial is remarkable. It was clear he spent a lot of time preparing what he would say in court. He is a true master of his craft. Moreover, when he spoke, everyone in the courtroom understood that Mr. Nash is the type of man who stands for justice.

I cannot emphasize enough how much Mr. Nash meant to our family during our darkest hour. Nothing will ever bring my brother back. However, Mr. Nash did the next best thing. He brought my brother’s murderers to justice. Robert Nash fought hard for our family as though he were part of our family.

I hope no one ever has to endure what my family had to go through. Unfortunately, there are evils in this world that will continue to commit horrible crimes. I thank God there are people in this world like Robert Nash to stand up for families like mine in their time of need.
