CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Dozens of supporters gathered Friday evening for a Save the Mason Rudolph Golf Course Rally.

The City of Clarksville had recently decided to turn the course into a public park with a playground and athletic fields, citing a decline in use. The city recently shifted course, saying the move will be postponed as they gather public input.

Rally organizer Terry Ray said, “Let’s be clear, we are not rallying against anyone, we are rallying to restore our Mason Rudolph Golf Course, we are all united here to make that happen.”

Sheena Dixon was there to support her daughter, who is a Junior Golfer. “We want to keep the course open because it is an affordable place for kids and beginners to come and try to learn how to play,” Dixon said.

The golf course has a history spanning several decades, and a huge number of people got their start there and still play there today, speakers said. The speakers focused on the teaching of life lessons, good sportsmanship and building of relationships to the younger generation.

At Thursday night’s City Council meeting, there was discussion of other solutions that might keep the course going.
