ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. – A dog found injured and almost dead along the roadway in Cheatham County is slowly recovering with the help of a lot of caring people and support from the public.
WKRN News 2 says a father and his son found the dog Easter Sunday on the side of Dry Creek Road in Ashland City. The male Shetland Sheepdog was weak and had puncture wounds to his face and lacerations on the back of the neck.
Animal officials named the dog Brett after the boy who found him. In addition to his scars and wounds it was discovered that Brett has heartworms and veterinarians say it will be several months before he fully recovers.

A Facebook page for Brett was set up and has gotten around 13,000 hits from supporters. Cash donations of about $7,000 have also been collected as well as dog food and other items. Officials at Noah’s Ark Society in Nashville is helping with the dog’s recovery and they say still need financial support for Brett.
A fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at My Sister’s Closet Consignment store at 4012 Hillsboro Pike in Green Hills from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. with Brett as the guest of honor.
