This strategic move strengthens Sunset’s presence in the region while providing Scout’s impressive portfolio of brands with expanded reach and resources.
The decision to sell was not made lightly. Scout Distribution has built a strong reputation over the past six years by supporting emerging and established brands with a hands-on, partnership-driven approach. However, several evolving factors led to this transition. Increasingly complex labor laws in California, along with rising operating costs—particularly in fuel, insurance premiums, wages, and utilities, have made it increasingly difficult to scale further while maintaining the personalized service that Scout is known for.
Additionally, Scout recognized the opportunity to provide its brands with greater infrastructure and broader market access throughout Southern California. Sunset Distribution Company brings the scale, systems, and experience necessary to support these brands at a higher level—while honoring the independent spirit that has defined Scout’s culture since day one.
