CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – This week, four out of the five defendants involved in the March 2023 shooting at a party in Summit Heights had their cases resolved in court.

On March 18, 2023, officers responded to an aggravated assault at 830 Central Ave. in Summit Heights. First responders discovered that a woman had been shot once in the back. Her wounds were considered non-lifethreatening. Eventually, three suspects were arrested, including siblings Khalil and Khadijah Titington.

Summit Heights party

According to the police investigation, the female victim had gotten in an argument with several other partygoers, and she decided to leave. Shortly after leaving, she realized she left her cell phone and returned to the party.

Upon her return, a fight broke out between the victim and two women, Khadijah Titington and Candice Corbin. According to the prosecuting attorney, Chris West, a third woman was also present, Carmella Peoples. “Carmella Peoples, despite being present, was not involved in any physical altercation with the victim,” West told Clarksville Now. “There is some question as to whether Peoples was yelling or if it was the others.”

While the fight was unfolding, the fourth defendant, Brian Bailey, got in the victim’s car, looking for items to steal, but he did not take any of the victim’s property, prosecutors said.

During the fight, Khalil Titington was standing nearby. He pulled out a handgun and fired one shot that struck the victim in the back.

‘I was drunk’

On Monday, Khalil Titington stood before the court and pleaded guilty to his involvement.

“Mr. Titington, the victim has been involved and approved this settlement,” West said during court. “The only question she has, which isn’t a strange question, is why did you shoot her?”

Khalil was standing at the lectern with his attorney, Timothy Warren, and contemplated the question for a moment before answering. “To be honest, I was just drunk,” Khalil said. “I didn’t know what I was doing.”

Plea deals and dismissals

Bailey, Peoples and Khalil Titington settled their cases in court Monday. On Wednesday, Corbin settled her case, and Khadijah Titington’s hearing was rescheduled for December.

Here are the plea deals and statuses for the five defendants:
