Summer Camps 2021: Your guide to programs in Clarksville this year

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – As Clarksville emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, summer camps are beginning to announce plans for 2021. Here are some of the camps available this year.

APSU Make Your Own Website, Camp A

Middle Schoolers (6th-8th grade)

• When: May 31-June 4
• Where: APSU Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building
• Times: 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.
• Cost: Anyone who wants to attend the camps can sign up at a steep discount. The first half of campers who sign up will get a 90% discount off the normal $99 price. All other campers will get a 60% discount. The discount codes are on the coding camp website.

• Details: Austin Peay State University’s popular summer coding camps. There will be 10 camps – including the popular “Make Your Own Website” and “Make Your Own Video Games” camps. All camps are half-day and Monday-Friday.

Clarksville Parks & Rec Summer Tennis Instruction

• When: June 1-July 8 and June 2-July 7
• Where: Swan Lake Tennis Court,
• Times: Tuesdays and Thursday: Ages 11-12,  (8-9:30 a.m.), Ages 13-15, (9:30-11am),  Wednesdays:  Ages 6-8, (8-9a.m), Ages 9-10, (9-10 a.m.)

• Details: Youths ages 6-15 years old, can learn the basics of tennis in this six-week instructional program.

Clarksville Parks & Rec Summer Youth Program Ages 13-15

• When: June 1-4, June 7-11, June 14-18, June 21-25, June 28-July 2, July 5-9
• Where: Kenwood Middle School, St. B Elementary, Caldwell Lane (6-12 years old), Cumberland Heights Elementary (6-12 years old), Liberty Elementary( 6-12 years old), Summit Heights (6-12 years old), Burt Cobb Recreation (9-12 years old), Crow Recreation Center (9-12 years old), Kleeman Recreation Center (9-12 years old)
• Time: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• Cost: Free
• Registration: There is a weekly registration policy. Register your child online and only select weeks you are confident your child will attend to make it possible to serve as many children as possible. Create an account here to register your child.
• Details: The Annual Summer Youth Program is a fun and rewarding summer camp experience offered to children ages 6-15 years old and runs six weeks from June 1-July 9 providing nine different locations around Clarksville. Each site is designated for a specific age group and offers daily age-appropriate games, sports activities, arts and crafts and other enrichment activities.

CA Experience Little Cougars Skills and Drills Basketball Camp (Ages 5-10)

• When: June 1-4 (Tuesday-Friday)
• Time: 8-11 a.m.
• Where: Clarksville Academy’s Procter Court
• Cost: $100 per camper

• Details: Coach Charles Clark, Clarksville Academy head girls’ basketball coach, will teach basic to advanced skills. For boys and girls.

Clarksville Parks & Rec Girls Basketball Clinic (Ages 11-14)

• When: June 5-June 26
• Where: Kleeman Gymnasium, 166 Cunningham Lane
• Time: 10-11:30 a.m, every Saturday

• Details: The Girls Basketball Clinic offers an opportunity for athletes of all abilities to participate in an exciting 4-week basketball clinic. Athletes will become more confident, efficient, and versatile basketball players by participating in scrimmages and stationary drills.

Clarksville Youth Enrichment Programs Beginning & Advanced Sewing/Quilting Doll Clothing Program (Grades 3& Up)

• When: June 7-18, June 21-July 2, or July 5-16;

• Details: Experience the joys of quilting and sewing as students learn basic techniques! Students will perfect the art of straight stitching, piecing, and color design as they complete a wide array of projects! A sewing machine and basic supplies will be necessary, and a supply list will be provided upon registration.

• Details:  Kinder Art, Art, Advanced Art & Sculpting Programs.  Sculpting only available July 5-16. Designed to offer students the freedom to experiment and develop a sense of self-expression, the focus is on the process rather than the product. Students will be encouraged, through a variety of techniques, to discover the elements of art and to intuitively apply the principles of art and design to their creations.

• Details: Calling all those with curious minds! Customize a pair of motorized bots, construct your maze’s tunnels, doorways, passages, and obstacles, and then watch in awe as the personalized bot zooms through a hand-crafted maze.

• Details: Building intricate tracks, chutes, tunnels, towers, ramps, and more to create a variety of working contraptions, students will also learn the principles of slope, velocity, force, momentum, and balance. On top of that, the basics of physics and engineering will be covered while strengthening analytical skills, resilience, and creativity.

Chefs in training participating in these programs will learn all about kitchen equipment, cooking terms, recipes, knife skills, labels, cooking techniques and the science behind them, and more. • Details: This camp teaches youth the basic fundamentals of archery. Participants will learn shooting techniques, safety rules, and different bow types.

Clarksville Parks & Rec ACT Prep Summer Program

Clarksville Parks & Rec Softball Camps & Clinic (Ages 3-14)

• Where: Heritage Park Baseball Complex
• Time: 6 -7:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., (M, T, R, F)

• Details: This clinic allows children to participate in four group sessions with a skilled softball instructor. This is a great clinic for all skills levels, whether they have never played before or are experienced, softball players. Participants can expect to learn more about the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, defensive positions and game strategies.
