The Education Foundation 2013 “Stuff the Bus Initiative” with 5-Star Radio, Zaxbys, and the Youth Academy was a great success.

This past Saturday and Sunday Wal-Mart shopper’s donated nearly 27,000 items to be distributed to local classrooms through the CMC Teacher Warehouse program. In addition, $900.01 was collected in cash donations for the purchase of additional supplies and nearly 261.5 volunteer hours were contributed over the past 3 days to collect supplies, un-stuff the bus, stock the store shelves and clean the store in preparation for our CMCSS teachers who will take advantage of these free supplies to be used in their classrooms.

None of this would have been possible without our sponsors leading the initiative, bus drivers transporting items, volunteers staffing the locations and sorting the supplies and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community giving their resources to our efforts. This is a true testament to our community’s’ belief in and support for educators as well a willingness to give back!

The CMC Teacher Warehouse is a program of the Education Foundation, which is open to licensed CMCSS teachers who make may make an appointment to shop up to 4 times a year or 6 times if they volunteer or are a new teacher. The store is run completely by volunteers and takes on-going donations throughout the year of new and gently used supplies that can be used in a class, school or office environment.

This past fiscal year the Warehouse saved the 1,013 teacher shoppers nearly $40,000 in out-of-pocket expenses collectively on what they would have spent to purchase materials to support their classes. The Foundation is committed to supporting students and teachers in public schools and works year round to contribute to initiatives’ that help to improve student achievement.
