CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Students are safe after East Montgomery Elementary School was placed on lockout on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 7.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) spokesperson Elise Shelton said the school system was advised by law enforcement to place the school on lockout status while authorities pursued a possible suspect in a nearby area. The public is not in any danger.

Shelton said the school has followed all lockout procedures and the principal contacted parents.

The lockout was lifted around 11:45 a.m.

According to CMCSS, lockout will be used when a threat to safety exists outside the building. All exterior doors will be secured. Movement in the school will still be allowed but will be restricted to supervised movement only. Movement in certain areas of the building may be fully restricted, as necessary.
