CLARKSVILLE, TN – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County’s first-ever Kennel to Castle Competition brought together creativity, craftsmanship, and community spirit, all to support local families and their furry friends.
Participants built and decorated one-of-a-kind doghouses that were judged on creativity, craftsmanship, and heart, with every completed doghouse donated to Montgomery County Animal Care and Control to benefit low-income families and their furry friends this winter.
This year’s top three winners were:
- Kwik Tax – Best in Show
- United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region – The Royal Pawlace
- Oakland Elementary School – Tail Waggers’ Choice
A special thank-you goes out to our generous sponsors – Action Air, Kwik Tax, Publix (Madison Street) and Jodi Griffey with BLK Dog Realty – whose enthusiasm and support made this event possible.
Leading up to the competition, Oakland Elementary’s 4th grade students collaborated with Habitat staff and volunteers to design and decorate their award-winning doghouse, reflecting their school theme: “Building Character, Shaping Minds, Achieving Success.” Through this partnership, students learned how veterans in our community continue to serve as role models of character through volunteerism with Habitat.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, Habitat veteran and ReStore employee Nathan Hartley joined the 4th graders for their Veterans Day Concert, accompanying them on his djembe drum as students performed their own remix of “Who’s on the Dollar Bill.” At the conclusion of the concert, five exemplary students received the Oakland Elementary and Habitat for Humanity Citizenship Award and were invited to join Habitat’s float team for the 2025 Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade.
