CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System will honor outstanding students at their 25th Annual Academic Awards Banquet Friday, March 14.

All of the students are seniors from local high schools who will be honored at the banquet being held at First Baptist Church in Clarksville with each student being recognized for their academic achievement.

A total of 168 seniors are scheduled to attend the banquet. Those students have received the award for their last three consecutive years as sophomores, juniors and seniors. In addition 760 sophomores and juniors will be recognized at their individual school awards ceremony for the honor.

To date, 11,502 students have accepted this honor over the past 25 years. The event Friday will be special in that it will reflect on the rich history of the academic awards program. The Education Foundation feels it is important to remember the history of the event and some of the people who were there in 1990 will also be there Friday.

Guest speaker for the event is Dr. B.J. Worthington, Director of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools. Worthington was recently named as a “Leader to learn from” by the national publication Education Week. Keeping with the historical aspect of the event organizers said Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter was the first speaker in 1990.

Over the past 28 years the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation has worked within the community to support the school system. The foundation partners with many local businesses and community leaders in an effort to improve educational opportunities for students in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
