HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Christian County Sheriff’s Office took two teens into custody Wednesday after a weapon was found on the grounds of Christian County High School.

School personnel and Christian County High Resource Officer Steve Tucker were alerted by a tip that a student was in possession of a handgun on school property.

Authorities made contact with the student and confiscated the loaded 38 semi-automatic handgun without incident. Initial reports indicate that both students, 16 and 17-year-old males, had possession of the gun throughout the day.

Thursday morning, the Christian County Sheriff’s office made a third arrest in the case. Another 17-year-old male also had possession of the weapon at some point during the day at the Gateway Academy building. All three of the students have been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a handgun by a minor.

Christian County Public School officials say the incident was unfortunate but are pleased with the efforts of school staff and law enforcement to prevent anyone from being harmed.

The first two juveniles arrested were processed and taken to the McCracken Juvenile Detention Center in Paducah. The third teen was taken into custody Thursday at Hopkinsville High School and is currently being processed. The Sheriff’s Office says this is an active, ongoing investigation and specific details will not be released at this time.
