CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The campus of Austin Peay State University has been busy since Saturday, August 15 as new students move in and other student return to school.

Bill Persinger, Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing at APSU said scheduled move-in continues each day through this Friday with open move-in for those who did not pre-schedule will take place this Saturday and Sunday.

Persinger added there were 1,223 rooms booked for move-in through Friday, August 21, and 978 who scheduled in advance for a specific move-in day and time.

Along with the wearing of masks, the move-in this year was extended over a period of several days to allow students to practice social distancing because of concerns over COVID-19.

Doors to Governors Terrace North, Governors Terrace South and Eriksson Hall along with other residence halls were open as students unloaded the things they will need for learning and living life as a Gov.

One new student, Blair King from Hickman, County Tennessee, talked about her first day at APSU.  “All I can say is I’m super excited and I’m looking forward to being a freshman and looking forward to all that goes along with it. I also want to join a few clubs but I haven’t decided which ones yet,” said King.

One group of between 15 and 20 students with Chi Alpha Ministry, stood on the sidewalks and near entrances to the residence halls around campus with signs saying things like ‘I Go Here, Ask me Anything’ and ‘Welcome to APSU.’

Neely Lawson with Chi Alpha said in years past the organization has helped students move in but this year things are different, and they are not allowed to help.

“We asked our students what they wanted to do instead and decided that we could at least stand in solidarity with them, encourage them, and welcome them so we could serve the university in that way,” Lawson said.
