Edward Rice Sneed, Jr., was a mentor, friend, and well-loved figure in the financial planning community in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
Sneed, 74, passed away on August 10, 2020 following an illness and Struble & Co. Financial Life Planners would like to honor his memory and asks that his family is kept in the community’s thoughts and prayer as they celebrate his life.
Sneed was well-known for his knowledge and passion as he worked in financial services for almost four decades.
Sneed’s father instilled a knowledge of the stock market in him at a young age and he began investing as a child. Whatever money he earned and wanted to invest, his father would match. Thus, a keen knowledge of and interest in the stock market led to a career change which spanned thirty-eight years in financial services, first as a Limited Investment Partner at J.C. Bradford then at Prime South Investments for a short time. Finally, he was co-owner and Senior Partner in the office of Raymond James Financial Services.
Struble and Co. Financial Life Planners of Raymond James Financial Services offers a client-driven team approach to financial planning creating personal, distinct plans to provide a roadmap through their client’s financial journey.
“We shared a professional relationship with Ed Sneed since the time he hired Alicia Struble in 2005. He served as a mentor and teacher over the years, and provided many invaluable lessons,” Struble and Co. said. “Through his leadership, business expertise, and continuous desire to learn, Ed formulated a unique business practice that he instilled in Alicia, and we continue to use today.”
Before becoming a foundation in the local financial community, he was educated in Clarksville Montgomery County Schools, was a talented athlete and a fierce competitor in baseball and football. Sneed also attended college at Southwestern University, now Rhodes, in Memphis, Tenn., and finished his college career at Austin Peay State University where he was a member of the baseball team.
After graduation, Ed began a nine year teaching career at Clarksville High School where he taught World and American History. While there, he also coached football, baseball, and golf. The CHS golf team went on to earn the state championship in 1974. Sneed also taught Civics and Economics at Fort Campbell and Current Political Problems as an adjunct professor in the Political Science Department at APSU.
Sneed’s legacy lives on in the many highly regarded financial advisors who were hired by him and were fortunate to benefit from his knowledge of investment and high ethical standards. Many credit him with their first successful steps in business.
“You are one of a kind, and I am blessed to have worked with such an intelligent and caring man,” Alicia Struble wrote to Sneed shortly before his death, “You taught me about the importance of a relentless burning desire to take care of those that depend on us and to put honesty and integrity above all else.”
The letter was something Sneed held dear and was included in his obituary. Alicia Struble is honored that her letter meant as much to Ed as he always meant to her. His reputation in the business is unsurpassed and his legacy will not be forgotten.
He was loved by people in the business, by both colleagues and clients. His honesty and integrity earned him high marks and the trust of his investors. His memory will live on forever and ever.
While their offices remained open on Friday, August 14, 2020, their team: Alicia, Jane, and Sarah Beth, took time to grieve the loss of a great man and attend the celebration of Ed Sneed’s life.
