CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With multiple days of rain coming up, Clarksville could get 4-6 inches, causing creeks and rivers to rise. Flooding may develop, especially this weekend as heavy rain falls on already saturated soil, the National Weather Service said Monday.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, which manages the dams along the Cumberland River, is closely monitoring the situation, according to a news release.

Heavy rain is predicted in Clarksville this week, as of Feb. 10, 2025. (NWS, contributed)

All USACE-operated storage projects currently have empty flood storage zones to capture runoff and mitigate downstream risks. Additionally, Cordell Hull Lake and Old Hickory Lake – both upstream from Nashville and Clarksville – have been lowered to the bottom of their normal operating ranges to maximize available capacity.

Cheatham Dam is just upstream from Clarksville. Due to the high volume of expected rainfall, navigation at Cheatham Lock may be impacted by this weekend, with potential short-term restrictions or closures lasting two to three days. Cordell Hull, Old Hickory, and Cheatham Dams do not have built-in flood storage and must release the water that runs into them, USACE said.
