Steven Michael Heflin, age 77, of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Tennova Hospital.
He is survived by his siblings; Bonnie Carole Yarbrough (Dennis Rice) of Clarksville, Wayne (Carol) Heflin of Dickson, Tommy (Brenda) Heflin of Hermitage and David Heflin of Clarksville; his son, Caleb (Brandy) Slaughter of Clarksville; two grandsons, Caden and Keegan Slaughter; seven nieces and nephews, Terry Yarbrough, Veleka Yarbrough, Shannon Heflin, Shonda Heflin, Bronson Heflin, Chris Heflin and Kathrynn Heflin; seven great-nieces and nephews; Lauren, Corbin, Farrin, McKinna, Kinzie, Jaxton, Willow, Teagan and Riahlynn and other family members.
He was a Vietnam Veteran and an active member of VFW Post 4895 in Clarksville and was the Post Commander from 2008-2011. He had a true Passion for helping others, especially Veterans. Mr. Heflin worked for Orgain Ready Mix from March 10th, 1965 until his retirement on July 10th, 2008. During that period, he also served his country during the Vietnam War as a sergeant (E-5) in the United States Army. He was inducted in November of 1965 and honorably discharged in October of 1967.
After returning from Vietnam, he returned to work at Orgain Ready Mix and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and cousins, loved following all his grandkids, nieces and nephews in all their sporting events (he was a great sideline coach) and very active in daily activities at the VFW.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in the Chapel of Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, 5817 Fort Campbell Boulevard, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post 4895, 1701 Haynes Street, Clarksville, TN, 37043.
