NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Governor Bill Lee confirmed during his daily briefing on Monday, April 13, the state-wide Shelter at Home order will continue through April 30.
While the information regarding COVID-19 appears positive, officials are cautious to re-open completely as there will continue to be short and long term negative impacts surrounding completely lifting Stay at Home orders.
Dr. Lisa Piercey, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health, reported that Monday is the 10th consecutive day with a single percentage increase in positive COVID-19 cases.
“The safety and the health of Tennesseans is the utmost concern,” said Governor Lee. Re-opening the state will require coordinated efforts by healthcare officials, business leaders, and local leaders.
“We need Tennesseans to go back to work,” said Governor Lee.
The governor extended the Shelter at Home order until April 30 but announced the creation of a new Economic Recovery Group. The Economic Recovery Group will work with Unified Command to develop a strategic plan to re-open the state.
The group will be led by Mark Ezell, Commissioner of the Department of Tourism Development to prepare for a safe opening of the state. The focus of the group will be to understand the needs of healthcare professionals and the impact of industries in the state.
Many unknowns still exist at this time. Including which businesses will be able to open first, how schools will be impacted by the extended order, and what this means for small businesses.
“The middle ground will create some discomfort,” said Governor Bill Lee.
