CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Democratic state Rep. Ronnie Glynn held a town hall meeting Tuesday at 416 College St. to discuss recent bills passed by the state Legislature and take questions from the community.

Glynn, who represents the 67th District, also brought up hot-button issues concerning the most recent legislative session and the direction of the state’s governing with constituents.

The representative mentioned several bills from the session he viewed as successes, including SB1577, requiring video recordings of any interviews or interrogations conducted on juveniles taken into custody.

Glynn also shared his concern about a potential amendment to the state constitution that would expand the number of offenses that result in bail being denied to a prisoner when proof is evident or presumption great. Glynn’s concern stemmed from a belief that the law could undermine the presumption of innocence.

He proposed a hypothetical where an innocent person is denied bail under the amendment, saying, “He’s denied bail. He’s not even afforded the opportunity to go get a lawyer, to try and get himself off of it.”

Glynn addressed questions about working alongside Republican members of the Legislature, stating the importance of working with and being civil towards those with different opinions. When asked about the potential legalization of medical marijuana, Glynn said its potential to help veterans was worth capitalizing on and that he would vote for bills written by Republican supporters of the policy.
