CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools will be closed again Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through noon on Wednesday. The incoming cold front may bring another inch of snow with temperatures dropping to five degrees below zero.

Cold air and gusty winds will drop the wind chill to single digits through the day on Wednesday.

Snow and refrozen moisture will create hazardous road conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Most of the accumulating snow will end by noon, but scattered snow showers will linger into the afternoon.

City and county crews have been working to clear roads. Lt. Steve Warren with the Clarksville Police Department said conditions are still not optimal, but hours of sunshine have significantly improved many locations.

“I’m shocked at the change in the roads and amazed at the difference five hours of sunlight makes. The main roads are a lot clearer than they were,” he said.

Warren said while most major arteries are easier to travel, secondary roads, medians, and parking lots are still causing issues and vehicles continue to get stuck in ice and snow.

Montgomery County Highway Department Supervisor, Mike Frost, talked about Tuesday’s sunshine which he said helped melt some of ice and snow but there are still trouble spots in the county.

“We’ve got the main roads in pretty good shape. I don’t think anybody will have any trouble running the main roads. The side roads are still going to have some ice and snow on them, especially in the subdivisions. We’re just now starting to get into some of those and get them pushed out,” Frost said.

Raised medians are deceptive because drivers often can’t see them under the snow.

If you must travel and you do get stuck, you can call 911 for assistance. However, police say that the most officers can do for some drivers is call a tow truck.

No power outages have been reported so far in the city and all traffic lights are functioning.
